As a kid in the Caribbean, Alexander Hamilton wished for a way to rise up. Orphaned at the age of 13 after the death of his mother, Alex learned to fend for himself. Working for his late mothers' landlord and reading every book he could get his hands on, he planned for the future, and eventually won a scholarship to Columbia University.

Between his own illness, his mother's death, and the need to work (even as a young man), Alex's early education was frequently interrupted. His many absences led to poor grades in primary and secondary school, but his constant reading and writing would eventually pay off. At 18, he moved to New York to attend Columbia on a full scholarship.

Despite his reputation for being a loudmouth, Alex excells in most of his classes. As a political science major, he is highly involved in student government. His professors say that while he is brilliant, his essays are often many thousand words longer than the criteria suggests.
